Tom is well known throughout the Nurse Anesthesia community for his expetise as a clinical anesthetist, writer, speaker and leadership coach. With experience both as a Chief Nurse Anesthetist and Nurse Anesthesia Educator, Tom has touched the lives of hundreds of CRNAs who are now practicing throughout the Nation. Experienced working across department lines, he is in a unique position to provide management and leadership techniques in both healthcare and business communities.

His depth of experience and keen insight give the reader important information related to leadership, management and patient safety issues.
Tom’s four decades of experience as a healthcare provider and leader provide a solid foundation for his powerful book, Leader Reader 1, Authentic lessons in leadership released in 2017. The book is receiving strong reviews and is a valuable resource for every leader in both medical and non-medical leadership positions.
Speaker
As a requested speaker, Tom has been onstage at the AANA fall leadership academy, the AANA annual congress and has participated in seminars sponsored by Northwest Anesthesia Seminars, Encore Anesthesia Symposium, IPGE, and NAFA. Educator
Building upon his experience as the director of clinical training for the Air Force nurse anesthesia program followed by his work as an associate professor at the University of Kansas, Tom continues to actively teach leadership courses. Currently, Tom teaches doctorate level online leadership coursed for Midwestern University, Medical University of South Carolina, and National University.
Personal Interests
Tom is an active member of his community and believes that true healthcare reform begins with individual fitness. Leading by example, Tom is an avid cyclist and actively participates in the National Rails to Trails program to increase the number of dedicated cycling routes in America. In addition, he collaborates with his wife Liz who writes and publishes articles to motivate healthcare workers to improve their own personal health.
